The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the National Rural Revitalization Administration have released a circular explaining how to keep increasing the income of people who have been lifted out of poverty.
In 2021, China achieved its poverty alleviation goal, lifting nearly 100 million rural residents out of extreme poverty after eight years of arduous efforts.
The circular noted that due to the recent downward trend of prices of some agricultural products, as well as natural disasters such as floods in some provinces, some rural residents face challenges when it comes to the continual increase of their incomes. So it is important to take measures to ensure that those people won't fall back into poverty again.
The circular called for stabilizing the employment of people lifted out of poverty and increasing their wages. China's eastern region should guide enterprises to deepen labor cooperation with the central and western regions, and find ways to retain employees from the west.
Meanwhile, the central and western regions should carry out targeted vocational skills training to improve the competitiveness of rural residents, and expand their employment channels, including creating job opportunities in their local areas, according to the circular.
In addition, the quality and efficiency of rural industries should be improved, and the implementation of projects such as rural tourism needs to be accelerated. Industrial insurance policies also should be carried out in a timely manner, to effectively hedge against the impact of falling prices and disasters on the income of rural residents.
Relevant policies to guarantee rural people's livelihoods, including education, medical care, housing, drinking water, and rural subsistence allowances should also be followed through, said the document.
The trio will conduct a series of experiments in fields such as life science, fluid physics, combustion science and materials science. Notably, this is the first time that fruit flies have been taken on a Chinese space mission as experimental subjects. What made scientists choose fruit flies? What experiment will they undergo?
